Suspect Arrested in Yorba Linda Cold Case Homicide
SANTA ANA, Calif. – (May 14, 2014) – On Sunday, May 11, 2014 Orange County Sheriff’s investigators arrested Paulino Olmos Gonzalez, 48, on charges of murder in connection with a 1991 homicide that occurred in the city of Yorba Linda. Gonzalez was identified as a suspect following a recent re-examination of DNA evidence collected and stored at the time of the initial investigation. Following the DNA match, Gonzalez was located in federal custody in the state of Texas serving a federal sentence.
On November 3, 1991, Gonzalez is alleged to have been involved in the shooting death of Salvador Murillo, 50, in a rural area of Yorba Linda comprised of orange groves and oil wells. Murillo died of an apparent gunshot wound and his death was determined to be a homicide. Responsibility for the investigation was transferred last year from the Brea Police Department when Yorba Linda began contracting the Sheriff’s Department for police services. Continue reading
