WHAT: Were each charged today with three felony counts of special circumstances murder for committing multiple murders. Acosta is also charged with sentencing enhancements for the personal discharge of a firearm causing death. Man convicted after using Instagram to steal from college students in Orange and Fullerton

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man was convicted and sentenced yesterday for burglarizing the homes of female college students that he found by using Instagram. Arturo Galvan, 45, Menifee, pleaded guilty on Sept. 19, 2016, to five felony counts of first degree residential burglary, one felony count of attempted first degree residential burglary, and one misdemeanor count of resisting and obstructing an officer. He was sentenced to eight years in state prison and was ordered to pay restitution to the victims.
On multiple occasions between May 22, 2014, and Dec. 3, 2015, Galvan entered the homes of female college students in Orange and Fullerton, which primarily served as sorority houses for Chapman University and California State University, Fullerton. The defendant located the victims’ residences through the GPS locations tied to photographs the victims posted on the social media website Instagram. Galvan entered the victims’ homes during the late afternoon or evening hours and stole various items including women’s underwear, clothing, personal photos, planners, jewelry, laptops, and tablet devices. WHAT: Will be speaking at a memorial vigil in honor of the 40th anniversary of one of the largest mass shootings in Orange County history.
On July 12, 1976, Edward Allaway, a janitor for California State University, Fullerton, entered the campus library and opened fire. He tracked down and shot co-workers and other library patrons. Seven victims were murdered, and two more were shot and survived. Allaway called the police to turn himself in shortly after he ran out of ammunition. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A motel worker was arraigned today for the attempted human trafficking, pimping, and pandering of a fictitious minor girl on social media. Daniel Negrete Herrera, 28, Fullerton, is charged with one felony count of human trafficking of a minor, one felony count of attempted pimping of a minor, one felony count of attempted pimping, and one felony count of pandering by procuring. If convicted, Herrera faces a maximum sentence of 12 years in state prison. Herrera was arraigned today and is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on July 19, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. in Department N-12, North Justice Center, Fullerton. Continue reading

Sukhee Kang, the carpetbagger from Irvine, is having a rough time in today’s primary election in the 29th State Senate District. He is dead last in the early ballot results, according to the O.C. Voter Registrar.

New award recognizes teen volunteers for dedication to the organization’s High School Bigs mentoring program
SANTA ANA, Calif., June 2, 2016 – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County and the Inland Empire, Orange County’s premier youth mentoring organization, is launching a new award named in honor of local auxiliary group Angelitos de Oro. The auxiliary is a major supporter of High School Bigs, one of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ three one-to-one mentoring programs offered to children facing adversity.
Receiving the inaugural award are two dedicated teen volunteers through High School Bigs. The program matches high school students one-to-one with children at local elementary schools in weekly site-based sessions facilitated by a BBBS program specialist. During these sessions, matches discuss academic achievement, self-esteem, bullying and relationship-building. Continue reading

Burglar from Fullerton who was shot by a homeowner is going back to prison

FULLERTON, Calif. – A felon was convicted and sentenced today for burglarizing two homes and assaulting and robbing a homeowner on Christmas and fleeing the scene after being shot by the homeowner. Jeremy William Bell, 31, Fullerton, pleaded guilty today to a court offer of two felony counts of first degree residential burglary, one felony count of aggravated assault, and one felony count of robbery, with sentencing enhancements for the personal use of a deadly weapon, and a prior prison conviction in 2012 in Riverside County for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Over the People’s objection, Bell was sentenced to three years in state prison.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 24, 2014, Bell broke into an Anaheim home. Bell removed the sliding screen door of a room at the residence but was unable to get inside. The family inside the home noticed an unknown man wearing a ski mask and contacted 911. The defendant subsequently fled the scene. Anaheim Police Department (APD) officers arrived at the residence but were unable to locate the defendant. Continue reading
