Yorba Linda Attempted Robbery Suspect in Custody
YORBA LINDA, CA – (November 14, 2013) – This morning Matthew Weingartner, 19, of Yorba Linda was arrested for the attempted robbery of a female jogger. The incident occurred on a horse trail near Valley View Avenue and Bastanchury Road in Yorba Linda.
At approximately 6:15 a.m. this morning, a 39-year-old female was approached by Weingartner who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses and brandished a knife. He grabbed the female victim from behind and pulled her a short distance. The female was able to break away uninjured and she immediately called 911.
Orange County Sheriff’s deputies responded to set up a perimeter and conduct a search of the area. K-9 “Bolt” located Weingartner hiding underneath some pallets inside of a shed. Weingartner suffered a bite to his arm and a superficial stab wound to his stomach. He was arrested for kidnapping with intent to commit robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
