Downtown Fullerton is getting a new restaurant – Pie Dog – and the owner, Michael Schepers, knows a thing or two about restaurants.
Schepers, who is Austrian and Dutch, and Megan, his Persian wife, is Persian lived in England for a while, according to Monster Munching. They moved to America and now own a Thai restaurant in Irvine called Kitima. They bought the place from a Thai family around a decade ago. But what they are really known for is a tiny little place, next door, they’ve called Mick’s Karma Bar, where they make a fine burger from meat they grind themselves.
But what about Pie Dog? How about “100 craft beers, 20 sausages, house smoked bacon, wood roasted beef, house roasted turkey, hung short ribs, ONE BURGER, a “carbonara” grilled flatbread, homemade drinks and soda, other peoples soft drinks, crv and surcharge…something like that,” as reported by the OC Weekly.
I can’t speak to the rest of Pie Dog’s menu, but what has made Mick famous is his burgers. Click here to read the Yelp reviews. Mick’s burgers placed number twenty on the 2012 Top 100 Foods list at the OC Weekly.
Mick’s burger was not actually called a hamburger at the start, according to the Eating My Way Through OC blog. Mick called it a Steak Hache, which is French for ground steak. A customer told him to change the name to burger, because Americans like hamburgers. From that point on people started to take notice of the burgers at Mick’s. The on-line buzz started, and has not stopped yet.
