Washi: Printmaking with Paper of Fukui
The Muckenthaler Cultural Center will offer a free gallery tour with multiple artists from its current exhibit “Washi: Printmaking with Paper of Fukui” on Thursday, Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
Buddhist monks, who produced paper for writing sutras, brought the art to Japan in 610 AD. Traditional paper of Japan, known for centuries as washi, is used for everything from furniture to toys, clothing, and origami. This exhibition, sponsored by Fullerton Sister City Association, features prints, drawings, and paintings made on washi paper from their ‘sister city’ in Fukui, Japan.
