In response to weather reports that temperatures in the Fullerton area may be up to 100 degrees today (Sept. 6), the City of Fullerton has designated the Fullerton Community Center as a “cooling center” available to all citizens.
Persons who are susceptible to heat or who do not have air conditioning in their homes are welcome to come to the Community Center for shelter during the hottest parts of the day.
The Fullerton Community Center located at 340 W. Commonwealth Ave., across the street from Fullerton City Hall, is open from 1 p.m.-9 p.m. today.
Fullerton Fire Department officials will reevaluate the weather situation on Saturday to determine if the Community Center should continue to serve as a cooling center.
Fire officials advise citizens to stay where it is cool and, if possible, avoid going outdoors during the hottest parts of the day. Citizens are also cautioned to avoid strenuous activity out of doors during the heat wave, and to drink lots of fluids.
Information about the cooling center may also be obtained by calling the Fullerton Community Center at (714) 738-6575.
