Cal State Fullerton President Mildred García is among three women honored by the National Hispanic Business Women’s Association as 2014 Business Women of the Year.
García was recognized in the category of community service/education/nonprofits during the 14th annual event held May 28 at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel in Anaheim.
The purpose of the association is to empower and encourage women and business owners to develop and increase their business through educational seminars and speakers, by offering mutual support, the sharing of information, business referrals and networking.
“Cal State Fullerton serves the most female students in the CSU and confers more bachelor’s degrees upon Hispanics than any university in the state,” García noted. “This is a direct result of our inspirational faculty, staff and students, and it is on their behalf that I proudly accept this award.
To help achieve its goals, the association has awarded 128 educational scholarships over the years to deserving students at Cal State Fullerton, Loyola Marymount, UC Irvine, Cal State LA and other institutions of higher learning.
At the Awards and Scholarship Luncheon, seven of the 18 new scholarships were presented to students from Cal State Fullerton.
