The city of Fullerton along with City Manager, Joe Felz were honored at the third annual Golden Hub of Innovation Awards hosted by the Association of California Cities, Orange County (ACC-OC) on June 26. The event recognized innovation in local government. Councilwoman Jennifer Fitzgerald along with City of Fullerton staff attended the ceremony at the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana.
The City of Fullerton received an Honorable Mention Award in the Energy and Environmental Quality category for its cost-saving and innovative establishment of a CNG Fueling station at the corner of Basque and Commonwealth Avenues.
The City of Fullerton’s EcoFuel CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) fueling facility started as a way to provide the city’s vehicle fleet with a domestically produced, clean, and inexpensive fuel. During the design process, the city identified a local need for a convenient CNG fueling location for the public to utilize. Hence, combining a consumer friendly publically accessible fueling location into the city’s original clean air fueling strategy made the most sense.
