Assemblywoman Young Kim Named Emerging Leader for 2015

FULLERTON – Assemblywoman Young Kim (R-Fullerton) announced that she was named to GOPAC’s 2015 Class of Emerging Leaders. Kim joins a class of 22 other honorees from across the country.

Assemblywoman Kim Issues Statement Opposing Bill That Would Increase City Vulnerability to Litigation Over Council Election Process

SACRAMENTO – Today I voted against AB 277 in the State Assembly. The legislation seeks to increase the number of cities that can be sued over their city council elections; lawsuits like Paik v. City of Fullerton. I support the transition to district elections as a way to increase representation of minority communities, but lawsuits like this can have the unwanted effect of undermining race relations.

This lawsuit filed by the ACLU is not reflective of the attitudes of the city’s Korean community at large. I am a proud resident of the city of Fullerton, all four of my children attended public schools in Fullerton, and as a first-time Korean American candidate running against an incumbent, I received over 56% of the vote in Fullerton. Sharon Quirk-Silva announces her 2016 campaign for AD 65

Former State Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva held a St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser tonight to raise money for her next campaign.  That’s right she is going to try to win back her seat in the 65th Assembly District in two years – in 2016.

Quirk-Silva was soundly defeated by a former Ed Royce staffer, Young Kim, in the November, 2014 General Election.  Kim got over 42,000 votes and Quirk-Silva barely cleared 35,000 votes.

The 2014 General Election was a tough one for the O.C. Democrats.  They also lost in the 34th State Senate District, where Janet Nguyen trounced former State Assemblyman Jose Solorio.  And the Democratics on the Irvine and Huntington Beach City Councils got the boot as well.   Continue reading→

Assembly Republican Leader Kristin Olsen is hosting a Fundraising Reception for Assemblywoman Young Kim (R-Fullerton) on Tuesday, March 31st at 6:00 pm, in Newport Coast.

Olsen and Kim will update the attendees on what is going on in Sacramento, where the Republicans mounted a comeback last year, winning locally in the 65th Assembly District, which Kim represents, and also defeating the Democrats in the 34th State Senate District, which is now represented by State Senator Janet Nguyen. Fullerton City Council candidate Sean Paden is hosting a fundraiser on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2104, at 7 pm, at MammaLucco’s NY Pizzeria and Italian Dining, located at 2500 E Imperial Hwy #100, in Brea, behind the Coffee Bean.

Paden is an attorney and he is currently a member of the Fullerton Design Review Committee and a former member of the Fullerton Planning Commission. Oh that wily Dick Ackerman.  On the one hand the former Republican State Legislator wants to be the next Chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County.  But Dick just can’t help himself.  He loves Fullerton’s liberals!  As such we should not be surprised that on Oct. 3, 2014, Dick was the keynote speaker at a campaign reception at Renick Cadillac for liberal Fullerton Mayor Doug Chaffee, the only current Fullerton City Council candidate that was endorsed by the Democratic Party of Orange County this year.

Assembly Candidate Young Kim Fails to Attend Election Forum Hosted by College Students

Fullerton, CA – Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva participated in a candidate forum at California State University, Fullerton CSUF on Monday, September 29. The question-and-answer forum was hosted by the CSUF Associated Students, Inc. in conjunction with the Division of Politics, Administration and Justice, and the Office of Community and Government Relations. Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva’s opponent, Young Kim, did not respond to the students’ invitation to attend.

The June Primary Election’s turnout data bodes ill for Solorio and Quirk-Silva

The O.C. Register asked four experts to analyze the results of this year’s June Primary election, to sort out who did and didn’t vote. The experts included our friend Scott Lay, the publisher of aroundthecapital.com.

What they concluded was:

  1. Rich, educated people vote more.
  2. Independent voters are less likely to vote in primaries.
  3. Seniors vote more.
  4. Ethnicity can influence turnout. (ie. Latinos don’t vote but Asians do)
