Designate a Sober Driver on St. Patrick’s Day

SANTA ANA, Calif. – (March 15, 2014) — With St. Patrick’s Day on March 17, Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and the Orange County “Avoid the 38” DUI Task Force are reminding drivers not to get behind the wheel if they’ve been drinking. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that more than 269 people were senselessly killed nationwide in crashes involving drunk drivers during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday from 2007 to 2011. Seven Confirmed Measles Cases in Orange County

(Santa Ana) – The Orange County Health Care Agency has confirmed seven cases of measles in Orange County in 2014, which is consistent with an increase seen throughout California. The most recent cases spent time in public locations in Orange County while contagious.

“We expect to see additional measles cases in Orange County, increasing the likelihood that you and your family may be exposed to the disease,” said Dr. Eric Handler, Public Health Officer for the County of Orange. “These new measles cases underscore the importance of making sure that you and your families are up to date with the MMR vaccination.”

Unidentified Body Found – Information Wanted

On January 6, 2014, unidentified female remains were found in Caspers Wilderness Park (Rural South East area of Orange County) and it is estimated that the remains have been exposed to the elements for a period of at least six months. After preliminary testing, it has been determined that the remains are of a petite female, at least thirty years of age, shoulder length wavy dark brown hair with light colored highlights. The decedent had a very distinct gold colored dental bridge on her left lower jaw and possibly had a broken nose at some point in her life. Continue reading→

Five Confirmed Measles Cases in Orange County

(Santa Ana) – The Orange County Health Care Agency has confirmed five cases of measles in Orange County in the last nine weeks, which is consistent with an increase seen throughout California. These cases raise the possibility that Orange County residents may be exposed to measles. The most recent case spent time in public locations in Orange County while contagious.

Staff at the Health Care Agency has been working with these locations to contact people who may have had a prolonged exposure to this case. The risk of developing infection after brief encounters with persons with measles is low, but as a precaution, people who were in the below locations around the same time as the individual with measles should: Continue reading→

Yorba Linda Homicide Victim Identified

YORBA LINDA, Calif. – (February 6, 2014) – The victim of the homicide that occurred Tuesday, February 4, 2014 in the city of Yorba Linda has been identified as Aubreyanna Sade Parks, 17, Gardena. Parks has a prior local arrest for prostitution and was reported as a runaway at the time of her death.

Investigators have yet to determine the relationship between Parks and the suspect in the homicide, Larry Shin, 35, Yorba Linda. Shin is currently being held in Orange County Jail on $1 million bail and is expected to be arraigned in court today. Continue reading→

Confirmed Measles Activity in Orange County Underscores the Importance of Childhood Vaccination

(Santa Ana) – The Orange County Health Care Agency has confirmed three cases of measles in Orange County in the last six weeks. These cases are unrelated and thus far have not resulted in transmission to other Orange County residents. In the last five years, Orange County has only seen zero to one case of the measles per year. The Orange County Health Care Agency reminds people that the way to protect yourself and your family against the measles is to get the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine. Continue reading→

Yorba Linda Homicide Suspect Identified

YORBA LINDA, Calif. – (February 5, 2014) – On Tuesday, February 4, 2014, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department began investigating the death of a deceased female found on the side of the roadway on Live Oak Lane in the city of Yorba Linda. Clerk-Recorder Extends Hours

Effective Monday, February 3, the Orange County Clerk-Recorder will be extending the hours at the department’s branch offices in downtown Fullerton and at the Laguna Hills Civic Center. The branch offices will now be open to the public from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The branch offices previously were open until 4:00 PM, while the department’s main offices in Santa Ana stayed open until 4:30 PM. For more information, please click here.
