Fullerton College’s Centennial Team is recreating the very first day of classes at Fullerton College on the campus quad with “1913 Day,” featuring antique autos, actors representing the first students, teachers and 1913 dignitaries, three musical numbers from Ragtime, games, interactive scenes, and refreshments. There are disturbing reports that there may be demonstrations led by “outside agitators.”
The event will be held on Wednesday, Sep. 25, 3013, from 11 am to 1pm and from 5 pm to 7 pm, at 321 East Chapman Avenue, in Fullerton. Continue reading
City to Host Vietnam Veterans Memorial: The Wall that Heals
The City of La Habra and American Legion Post 267, La Habra will host the Vietnam Veterans Memorial: The Wall that Heals at La Habra High School Football Stadium Thursday, July 11, 2013 through Sunday, July 14, 2013. The Wall that Heals is a half-size replica of the original Washington, D.C. Vietnam Veterans Memorial. An effort was initiated in 2010 to bring the Wall to La Habra, and in early January we received a call from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall Foundation letting us know that our request was approved.
Raul Luna, Chairman of the event’s Executive Committee, worked with City staff to form seven committees that will organize and manage activities scheduled during the Wall’s stay. The process began in February and will continue through the exhibit. The City is still looking for volunteers and sponsors to help make this a memorable community event. The primary goal is to memorialize those who made the ultimate sacrifice, recognize those who served in the armed forces, and educate the community about patriotism through our committees, sponsors and special ceremonies. Beloved Cultural Foundation Founder Passes
Courtesy of the Muckenthaler family, “The Muckenthaler Cultural Center’s beloved founder, Harold Walter Muckenthaler, passed away on April 16, 2013 at the age of 90. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends at Sunrise Retirement Community in Fullerton. He was born October 1, 1922 in Fullerton, California—where he lived his entire life—to his parents Walter and Adella Kraemer Muckenthaler. Harold’s maternal grandparents were Samuel Kraemer and Angelina Yorba of Placentia—both from Orange County pioneer families dating back to the Spanish Rancho era. His paternal grandparents, Albert and Agusta Muckenthaler, moved from Paxico Kansas, settling in the German Colony of Anaheim in 1909. Continue reading

(Fullerton, CA) On Saturday, April 27, 2013, Fullerton College will officially kick-off its Centennial with the opening of Legends and Legacies: The First 100 Years of Fullerton College. Running through July 14 2013, the exhibit explores the historical, social, and cultural growth of the college and its relationship with Orange County through personal histories and collections. “Gustavo’s Awesome Lecture Series!” Panel on History of Mexican American Baseball in Orange County is set for Thursday, March 28, from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Fullerton Public Library, located at 353 W. Commonwealth Ave., in Fullerton.
Co-authors Richard A. Santillán, professor emeritus at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; Susan C. Luévano, librarian at California State University, Long Beach; Luis F. Fernández, public historian specializing in Mexican American history; and Angelina F. Veyna, professor at Santa Ana College will discuss their forthcoming book, “Mexican American Baseball in Orange County” set to be released April 8th.
