Assemblywoman Young Kim Honors Fullerton Chamber CEO Theresa Harvey as the 65th Assembly District’s Woman of the Year
SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Young Kim (R-Fullerton) honored Fullerton Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Theresa Harvey as the 2015 Woman of the Year for the 65th Assembly District during a special Assembly ceremony held today at the State Capitol.
“Theresa is an ideal choice for Woman of the Year,” said Assemblywoman Kim. “She exemplifies leadership, public service, and community commitment. What she has accomplished for the City of Fullerton and for our local business community in such a short time is truly commendable. As Vice Chair of the Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economic Development, and the Economy, I am proud to have such a strong business leader and advisor in the 65th district.”
For the past ten years, Theresa Harvey has served as President and CEO of the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce. Under her leadership, the Chamber has achieved an increased visibility in the community, financial stability, and has made significant and tangible strides in creating economic opportunities for business owners throughout the city. Today, the Chamber is the largest business association in North Orange County and represents more than 600 businesses in Fullerton and surrounding cities that employ more than 20,000 people.
Theresa is a current member of the City of Fullerton’s Economic Development Commission, the Rotary Club of Fullerton, and serves on the Cal State University, Fullerton Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. She has served on the board for the National Charity League Fullerton Chapter, the Assistance League of Fullerton, the St. Juliana Parents’ Club, and the Muckenthaler Cultural Foundation, and has assisted organizations including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fullerton, Ballet Pacifica, the Orange County Performing Arts Center and the Orange County Arts Alliance.
Theresa was recognized as one of CSU Fullerton’s 50 Women of Distinction and was recently recognized by the YWCA of Orange County as 2014 Business Woman of the Year.
Held annually, the Woman of the Year ceremony takes place in the Assembly chambers and celebrates California’s extraordinary women. The first ceremony was held in 1987 to help commemorate Women’s History Month. The event has become an annual Capitol tradition to salute women who have done outstanding community service.
Assemblywoman Kim represents the 65th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Buena Park, Cypress, Fullerton, La Palma, Stanton, and West Anaheim. She serves as Vice-Chair of the Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economic Development, and the Economy.
