SBA Administrator Contreras-Sweet to Address L.A. Business Community

During her first public address to the Los Angeles business community, on Wednesday, Sept. 3, Maria Contreras-Sweet, an administrator for the Small Business Administration, will speak about her vision for the SBA and the role of Southern California’s vibrant and diverse small business sector in job creation and economic prosperity. Small business success is a key component to overall economic prosperity for our region, given that 52 percent of the workforce is employed by small businesses.
The event will take place at City Club Los Angeles starting at noon and includes an open audience Q&A.

Union Bank Touts Services for Businesses

The MUFG (Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group) Union Bank Business Banking group serves the needs of a broad range of businesses of varying sizes, with profiles of up to $15 million in annual revenues and offers a variety of products and services for business owners, including deposit solutions, loans, lines of credit, specialized credit programs and online business products.
“Our team offers truly customized financial solutions for clients through a geographically based organizational structure – regional leaders manage all areas of the business in their geographies and oversee associates who serve Business Banking clients on a daily basis,” said Union Bank Head of Business Banking Todd Hollander.
Since 2010, Union Bank has increased small business lending by more than 400 percent, including the number of Small Business Administration (SBA) 504 loans over the previous year, despite a tightened credit and economic environment. The bank continues participation in the SBA 7a loan program called Small Loan Advantage as part of the Business Banking group’s “Third Look” plan.

State of the Economy, Forecast Briefing with CA Controller Chiang

Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva will host a State of the Economy & Forecast Briefing with California State Controller John Chiang on Friday, Aug. 8, from 8 to 10 a.m. in Pavilion C of the Titan Student Center at California State University, Fullerton, located at 800 N. State College Blvd. in Fullerton.
Areas of discussion will include job creation in the new economy, statewide fiscal issues, and business development in our local community. Continental breakfast and coffee will be provided.

Two New Exhibits at the Fullerton Museum Center

The Fullerton Museum Center will be opening two new exhibits entitled, Ferry Cross the Mersey: The British Invasion and Six Strings as Canvas: Art Guitars from the Fender Custom Shop, on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 6-9 p.m. This exhibit will be open to the public through Nov. 9. The opening reception will be include refreshments from The Olde Ship British Pub and Restaurant, live entertainment including a performance by guitarist Rusty Anderson, a curator’s talk and more.
Admission is $10 for non-museum members. Museum members can attend the event for free.
Ferry Cross the Mersey: The British Invasion is an exhibition of photographs and period artifacts capturing some of the British Invasion music acts of the early 1960s and 1970s. In early 1964, Beatlemania had crossed the Atlantic and over the next two years, English acts dominated the American charts. The Beatles scored hits with their poppy, guitar-driven music that merged skiffle with American rock and roll. The Rolling Stones and the Animals had a more gritty sound influenced by R&B. Herman’s Hermits appealed to the teenybopper crowd, whereas Freddie and the Dreamers were more of a novelty act. This exhibit, organized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, …read more
