California State University, Fullerton’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) kicks off the fall semester with a free, public lecture series,”Tales of a Great University in a Period of Unprecedented Change,” that focuses on the achievements and challenges facing the university and its eight colleges during a time of unprecedented change. Campus leaders will discuss their programs and efforts to meet the institution’s new strategic plan goals in this continuing series, one of several programs presented during OLLI’s 35th anniversary.

A free sight and hearing screening will be conducted on Tuesday, Aug. 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday, Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 215 N Lemon St. (at Amerige Ave.).
The screening is sponsored by the Fullerton Host Lions Club, in conjunction with the Lions District 4-L4 Sight & Hearing Foundation.
“Over the years, Fullerton Lions have given over 1000 eye examinations and donated eyeglasses when needed. This is the main objective of the Lions Clubs of the world – to help the blind and visually impaired to live a more productive life,” said Walter Rountree, Fullerton Host Lions Club.

Another major road construction project will soon be underway to upgrade and improve the city’s roads and streets.
The Orangethorpe Avenue Project will begin approximately on September 22, 2014 on much-needed improvements to Orangethorpe Avenue, from Auto Center Drive to Magnolia Avenue.
The project construction cost is approximately $707,738 and is being financed with Measure M funds and Successor Agency funds.
The construction is expected to be completed within 6 weeks. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Only one lane will be open in each direction during construction. Signs will be posted on Orangethorpe prior to the start of work. Access to businesses and residences shall be open except for short periods when the construction work is immediately adjacent to the property.

These projects are all part of the City’s capital improvement projects that includes street repairs, road widening, street light replacements, sign replacement, sewer systems repairs/replacement/upgrades, water main system replacement/upgrades, and parks improvement projects. MOMS Orange County, a nonprofit organization serving low-income pregnant women for more than 20 years, is proud to announce the appointment of board member James Owens as the new MOMS Orange County Board of Directors president.
Fullerton resident James Owens is the new President of MOMS Orange County. James is an associate vice president and a financial advisor at Morgan Stanley in Santa Ana and has been a MOMS Orange County board member for five years.
In his new role as president with MOMS Orange County, James will use his financial background to educate the board of directors on making informed financial decisions, helping to secure much needed funding to continue its mission to help mothers deliver healthy babies and have healthy families, and overall ensure the long-term sustainability of MOMS Orange County.
