Financial institutions with low-interest loan programs for homeowners who experienced damage in the La Habra earthquake and aftershocks can be found at the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce website (www.fullertonchamber.com).
According to Theresa Harvey, President of Fullerton Chamber of Commerce, “Our members continue to be responsive to the needs of our community. By streamlining the lending process, homeowners who have equity in their homes may qualify for low-interest loan programs to repair earthquake damage, make repairs in anticipation of the next shaker, or address deferred maintenance on residential properties.”
Following the March 28, 2014 La Habra earthquake and subsequent aftershocks, City of Fullerton personnel worked tirelessly with various agencies to ensure homes, businesses, and schools were safe and that city infrastructure were repaired.
A few days later on April 1, the Fullerton City Council approved a proposal that earthquake-related inspections and permit fees be waived for necessary repairs. Residents who sustained property damage, and needed an inspection, could contact the City’s Building Department at (714) 738-6541 for assistance.
On April 4, the Vice Chair of the Orange County Board of Supervisors proclaimed a local emergency due to damage caused by the La Habra earthquake. The Orange County Board of Supervisors ratified the …read more

Fullerton real estate firm CENTURY 21 Discovery partnered with members of the Leon Owens Foundation to participate in the 12th annual Donate Life Run/Walk on April 26 at Cal State Fullerton. The firm has been a sponsor of the Run/Walk since its inception and put together a team to participate in the 2014 event in honor of Marv Owens, a 2013 kidney transplant recipient.
CENTURY 21 Discovery management has known Owens for years and asked him to share his story at a recent sales meeting.
Owens attended Fullerton High School, was an all-conference quarterback for Fullerton College, and played at San Diego State and for the St. Louis Cardinals. He recounted his struggles with diabetes and a heart attack, and about his experience with dialysis and receiving a call telling him that a transplant kidney had become available to him.
He is a member of the Fullerton family that founded and manages the Leon Owens Foundation, which awards scholarships to local college students in honor of the late Leon Owens.

Ernesto Poza, professor of entrepreneurship at the Thunderbird School of Global Management and founding member of the Family Firm Institute, will lead a May 6 discussion, “Family Governance: A Conversation on How Leading Families Manage the Challenges of Business and Wealth,” during Cal State Fullerton’s Center for Family Business program on Tuesday, May 6 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. (dinner included) at Cal State Fullerton, Mihaylo Hall, Room 3230.
The Center for Family Business operates within Cal State Fullerton’s Mihaylo College of Business and Economics. A partnership between the university and the business community, the center offers various opportunities for family-owned businesses to learn, receive information and network. The center offers programs and workshops throughout Southern California.
The event is free for first-time family business attendees interested in becoming a center member. Reservations are required and can be made online

Legislation that requires public schools to stock epinephrine auto injectors — commonly known as epi-pens — on campus passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee earlier today. SB 1266, authored by Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar), will help save lives by ensuring this critically important medicine can be administered quickly and safely if a student suffers from a serious allergic reaction during school hours. California law allows public schools to stock epinephrine, but does not require it.
“Anaphylaxis is a potentially lethal allergic reaction and the number of children with this condition is skyrocketing,” said Senator Huff. “A reaction can happen when a person is stung by a bee, ingests food such as shellfish or nuts, or even comes in contact with something as simple as latex. Reactions can be so severe, even fatal, without prompt action. Epinephrine – commonly known as adrenalin – is the first line of treatment. This month marks the 21st “birthday” for one of Fullerton’s favorite small businesses, Roadkill Ranch & Boutique. To celebrate the coming-of-age milestone, the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 9 at 4 p.m. at Roadkill, located at 119 E. Commonwealth Ave. in Fullerton.
A 21-year birthday party will immediately follow from 4:30 to 7 p.m., complete with champagne toasts for those 21 and over, and sweets and treats. There are rumors spinning about a DJ, too.
The boutique will offer a 21% discount on all purchases that night and a free gift with every purchase (while supplies last).
The store first opened their doors in 1993 in Orange, selling mostly vintage clothing and handmade leather jewelry.
