Orange County Proclaims Local Emergency in Response to La Habra Earthquake
SILVERADO CANYON, Calif. – (April 4, 2014) – Today, the Vice Chair of the Orange County Board of Supervisors proclaimed a local emergency following the March 28th La Habra earthquake and seeks the assistance of Governor Brown to proclaim a State of Emergency. The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to ratify the proclamation on Tuesday, April 8.
The Governor’s State of Emergency and subsequent request for a Presidential Declaration of Emergency may enable funding to become available to the County of Orange, as well as all eligible community members and businesses. Continue reading

Matador Cantina will host its fifth anniversary fiesta on Sunday, April 6. Scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m., guests will enjoy complimentary appetizers from 2 to 4 p.m., as well as live entertainment provided by flamenco trio Ostia throughout the celebration.
The celebration will benefit the Orange County chapter of Boys Hope Girls Hope with 20% of the days’ sales and 100% of proceeds from a silent auction to the organization and their mission of providing a stable home life for at-risk, academically gifted children.
“It’s been a great five years, and we’re looking forward to celebrating with our friends while supporting a fantastic charity in Boys Hope Girls Hope,” said founder and owner Mario Marovic.
Items scheduled to be available in the silent auction include a biplane ride over Fullerton, an in-home pairing dinner for eight by executive chef/general manager David Dennis, golf for four at Pelican Hill Golf Club, and many more.

SACRAMENTO, CA- Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton) announced that Assembly Bill (AB) 1733, has passed out of the Assembly Health Committee with unanimous support. AB 1733, which is jointly authored by Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) and Brian Maienschein (R-San Diego), would establish a fee waiver for people experiencing homelessness that need to obtain a certified copy of their birth record from the Department of Public Health or a state identification card from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
People experiencing homelessness rely on access to government programs and social services in order to obtain housing, employment, nutrition, health services, education, public assistance and other benefits. Nearly every state and federal program providing these services require an applicant to establish eligibility by producing proof of identity and/or proof of residence. The most common documents required are a certified birth record and a valid, government-issued photo identification card.

SACRAMENTO, CA- A bill by Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva (D- Fullerton), Assembly Bill (AB) 1976, that would more than double the number of Competitive Cal Grants offered to students and help the California Student Aid Commission maximize their current utilization rate, passed the Assembly Higher Education committee with a unanimous vote.
“The Competitive Cal Grant is a much needed program for students; however after looking at the number of applicants compared to the number of recipients, it became clear that we must increase the grants from 20,000 to 50,000 in order to provide the opportunities needed for student access and success,” said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva.

FULLERTON- Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva was proud to host the 2014 Women of Distinction event to honor exceptional women of the 65th District on March 29th with nearly 400 family members, friends and supporters. The ceremony, at Buena Park’s Walter D. Ehlers Community Recreation Center recognized the accomplishments of many outstanding women who make our community a better place to live and work.
“During Women’s History Month, I am reminded of the dedicated women who stood up for change and for the rights and opportunities that we enjoy today. From having the right to vote and serving in the United States Armed Forces, to becoming an elected official or company executive, we still face unique challenges with workplace discrimination and governmental representation. As we fight for a seat at the table and shape the future role of women in our society, we must remain vigilant on our path to equality,” said Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva.

BREA MALL TO CELEBRATE COMPLETION OF RENOVATION
Center to host series of transformation showcase weekends
BREA, Calif. (April 2, 2014) — Simon Property Group, Inc. (NYSE:SPG) and Brea Mall are celebrating putting the finishing touches on the property with a special community event and a series of showcase weekends throughout April and May.
