The City of Fullerton is honoring Baseball Hall of Fame Catcher Gary Carter by dedicating Field No. 2 at Fullerton Sports Complex, 560 E. Silver Pine St., in his name. The program will start at 11 a.m. on February 22, 2014. Carter’s wife, Sandy, and his brother, Gordon, along with other family members will be present at the event. Representatives from Major League Baseball have also been invited.
Gary Carter grew up in Fullerton and played little league and Pony baseball in the city. He starred in both a football baseball at Sunny Hills High School before being drafted by the then Montreal Expos in 1972 to pursue a career in professional baseball. He was an 11-time all-star catcher in the MLB. Carter died at the age of 57.
