The City of Fullerton is honoring Baseball Hall of Fame Catcher Gary Carter by dedicating Field No. 2 at Fullerton Sports Complex, 560 E. Silver Pine St., in his name. The program will start at 11 a.m. on February 22, 2014. Carter’s wife, Sandy, and his brother, Gordon, along with other family members will be present at the event. Representatives from Major League Baseball have also been invited.

Gary Carter grew up in Fullerton and played little league and Pony baseball in the city. He starred in both a football baseball at Sunny Hills High School before being drafted by the then Montreal Expos in 1972 to pursue a career in professional baseball. He was an 11-time all-star catcher in the MLB. Carter died at the age of 57.

Each year Senator Lou Correa honors females who are making a positive difference in the community through the progression of accomplishments in their industry. The honorees are from all sectors of the community including veterans, teachers, nonprofits, healthcare, government, trade and professional organizations. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2014 roster of Senator Lou Correa’s Top 100 female luminaries.

Applications are accepted through March 4, 2014. They will be reviewed and then selected by Senator Correa. He is seeking candidates who have successfuly served as a leader/managed a company, shown the ability or power to effect change in the community, demonstrated a willingness to share expertise with others in the field, serve as a role model to other women, and assume a leadership position in the industry outside of the candidate’s company. Bat Found at Fullerton College Tests Positive for Rabies

(Santa Ana)  – A bat found on the ground at Fullerton College near the Music Building on February 18, 2014 has tested positive for rabies.  Anyone who had recent contact with a bat in the vicinity of Fullerton College located in the City of Fullerton is asked to call Orange County Health Care Agency Epidemiology at (714) 834-8180 from 8am to 5pm or (714) 834-7792 after hours so a nurse can evaluate the risk for rabies.

The Friends of the Fullerton Arboretum and the Midsummer Night in the Garden Gala Committee are proud to announce that CSUF’s second president, L. Donald Shields, Ph. D., is the 2014 recipient of the Golden Oak Award in recognition of his personal efforts to establish the Arboretum at CSUF.

From 1970 to 1980, Don served as President and Professor of Chemistry at California State University, Fullerton. His role at the university began as an Appointed Assistant Professor of Chemistry in 1963. Don won the California State Legislature Distinguished Teaching Award, at CSUF in 1966. From 1967 to 1970 he served as CSUF Vice President for Administration and Associate Professor of Chemistry.
