Inside a packed, tense Santa Ana courtroom, former Fullerton Police officers Manuel Ramos and Jay Cicinelli have been found not guilty of murdering Kelly Thomas, the homeless Fullerton resident who died after being brutally beaten by Ramos, Cicinelli, and several other officers in July 2011, according to the OC Weekly.
How the jury reached such a stupid verdict is simply impossible to comprehend. Just watch the security video atop this post and tell me how in the world what those Fullerton cops did to Kelly Thomas, when they literally beat him to a pulp, wasn’t murder?
Fullerton Mayor Doug Chaffee reacted to the verdict by stating that “Over the course of the past two and a half years the City of Fullerton has taken the initiative to implement reforms to our police department so it can provide the best possible service to our community.”
But is the Fullerton Police Department truly reformed? How in the world will anyone ever trust any of them ever again?
How did the Fullerton Police Department deal with the Kelly Thomas trial? By inviting residents to attend a “Citizens Academy” where “residents curious about the policies of their police department have a place to go.”
“It’s a great opportunity for residents to understand why we do things the way we do,” said Sgt. Jeff Stuart. “It allows people to see exactly what goes on during any given situation and what goes into our decision-making.”
Oh we saw what you cops did in the Kelly Thomas situation and we saw the results of your decision-making!
Don’t think for a minute that anything has changed. Remember that John Barnett, the defense attorney who represented Manuel Ramos, told reporters: “These peace officers were doing their jobs…. They did what they were trained to do.”
That’s right. Ramos did what he was trained to do. This is of course a tacit confirmation that cops are trained to beat the holy crap out of people. Even those who can barely function.
This isn’t the first case of police brutality to result in no justice. Cops have been getting away with killing the residents they are supposed to protect for years. They are armed with guns and trained to shoot us in the heart and in the head. Over the past few decades I have read about many cases where they killed teenage girls and grandmothers, who were armed with screwdrivers and butter knives. This is what they are trained to do!
The worst part is that we are left to pay for their huge pensions when they are done beating us up and shooting us.
You want to change the system? Start by not voting for Chaffee or any other politician who excuses these alleged public servants. And start lobbying to take the guns away from cops as they did in England. Oh we should get to keep our guns but the cops? They simply cannot be trusted with weapons. Not when the guns are aimed at us, our brothers, our sisters and our neighbors and friends.
Oh and be sure not to vote again for O.C. District Attorney Tony Rackauckas. He had no business prosecuting this case. It should have gone to a younger prosecutor who would go to the mat to take down Ramos and Cicinelli. Why did T-Rack take this case? He bungled a sure thing and he ought to pay a political price for it.
