FULLERTON COLLEGE STUDENT AND SINGLE MOTHER OF FIVE WINS $30,000 UNDERGRADUATE TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIP
FULLERTON, CA – On Monday, April 7, 2014 Fullerton College student and single mother of five Lisa Haygood received a $30,000 graduate Transfer Scholarship from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. She was presented with the award during a surprise classroom visit by President Rajen Vurdien and members of his staff.
A returning student, Haygood put off attending college in favor of raising her children. With the support of her family, she enrolled at Fullerton College in 2012 and has since been a model student, carrying 12 or more units each semester while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Haygood, a member of the college’s Honors Program, will graduate from the college this May with three associate degrees – Political Science, History, and Arts & Human Expression. This fall she will continue her studies at the University of California, Irvine and hopes to one day become a teacher. Continue reading
