Led by high scoring performances from seniors Austin Carter and Sean Murphy Sonora rebounded from a loss against La Habra with a 72-56 win over Sunny Hills.
Murphy gave Sonora (18-3, 2-1) a quick lead in the first quarter with his his first of seven 3-pointers on the night.
Shortly after Murphy’s make from beyond the arc, senior Bruce Rutledge drained a 3-pointer of his own for the Raiders to boost them to an early 6-0 lead.
Though the Raiders were off to a hot start, the Lancers (12-9, 1-2) didn’t stay scoreless much longer.
A basket by senior Luke Ross got the Lancers on the board before the Raiders could increase their lead into double digits.
As the first quarter transpired the Lancers got over their slow start and cut Sonoras lead to 3.
Just as it seemed like the lancers might tie the game up back to back 3-pointers by the Raiders made sure the quarter ended with Sonora in the Lead.
The second quarter began with big plays from both Freeway League teams.
Murphy hit his second 3-pointer of the night and moments later his third to put the Raiders up by 13.
