In a fierce Freeway League and crosstown rivalry match in the rain between two undefeated teams in conference play, Troy remained undefeated with a 11-5 win over Fullerton water polo game.
The game started off slow as both teams tried to get a feel for one another’s game plan. There were more ejections in the period than goals as two Troy players and one Fullerton player were penalized. Even so, neither te am could capitalize on the 6 on 5 opportunities. Claire Schade scored the lone goal for Troy as the Warriors led 1-0 in the first quarter.
Just twenty seconds into the second quarter, Schade was fouled inside the five meter line by Yzguerra. Troy’s leading leading scorer on the season hit the penalty shot to put the Warriors up 2-0. Fullerton’s Kaya Ortega answered back to put the Indians on the board.
Schade pulled off a spin move on a defender and threw an alley-oop lob to teammate Megan O’Malley who finished inside for the score. Once again, Ortega answered with a goal for Fullerton, prompting Troy to call a timeout.
