Sacramento – An oversight audit request proposed by Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar), and supported by Assemblyman Isdaore Hall (D-Compton), was killed today in committee. The reason for the audit request was to examine how the state has handled the takeover of Inglewood Unified School District.
“A state takeover already alienates an entire community by disempowering the locally elected representatives,” says Senator Huff. “But if the state is making matters worse, we should be able to take a closer look at what the problems are and put the district back on a path toward stability. That’s the least we can do.”
In 2012, Inglewood Unified went under receivership by the Department of Education which effectively stripped the local school board of its legal rights, duties, and powers, and vesting control of the district with the State Superintendent. The state authorized a $55 million line of credit for Inglewood Unified’s academic and fiscal recovery.
