Many homeowners and contractors plan projects that involve planting, excavation, and demolition. These activities are major causes of pipeline damage.
Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas®) wants to remind customers that pipelines may be located anywhere, including under streets, sidewalks and private property sometimes just inches below the surface.
Protect your safety and the safety of those around you by having the locations of underground utility lines marked before you dig.
- Call Underground Service Alert at 811 at least two business days prior to excavating.
- Underground Service Alert will coordinate with SoCalGas and other utilities in the area to mark the locations of buried utility-owned lines.
- This is a FREE service and it can help prevent injury, costly property damage and loss of utility service; it can also reduce costs of dispatching emergency responders to unsafe digging incidents.
Since SoCalGas and other utilities mark only their own lines, it is recommended that you contact a plumber or other qualified professional to mark the locations of customer-owned lines such as gas piping, electrical, phone and cable conduit to your patio, pool/spa heater, BBQ, fire pit and other structures on your property.
