Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) voted for legislation today designed to deter child sex trafficking in California by strengthening criminal penalties against sex buyers and imposing a penalty structure similar to that for drunken driving. Huff is serving as a Principal Co-Author for SB 1388, which is authored by Senator Ted Lieu (D-Redondo Beach). Senator Jerry Hill and Senator Holly Mitchell are serving as Joint Authors in the bi-partisan effort to combat child sex trafficking.
“Passage of SB 1388 in the Senate sends a strong message to both buyers and sellers that there will be serious consequences for the crime of exploiting our children,” said Senator Huff. “Stronger penalties will make the buying and selling of children far less appealing by increasing jail time and fines for scurrilous pimps and their customer base.”
SB 1388 sets a minimum fine of $1,000 for soliciting sex from a minor and a minimum fine of $5,000 for pimping a minor, as well as a minimum of 48 hours in county jail for engaging …read more
