The Woman’s Club of Fullerton (WCOF) has added its 100th member since the organization experienced a dramatic rebirth over the past several years. The club also honored its senior member, Mary Peardon, with a surprise 95th birthday party, complete with balloons and a cake at its February 19 meeting. Shanthi Ramesh of Fullerton received her pin from Membership Chair Kathy Evans and was officially welcomed as the club’s 100th member. In addition to Ramesh, seven other women were pinned, bringing the club’s total membership to 106.This is a far cry from 2007, when a local news telecast all but declared the club’s death knell in an interview with Mary Peardon, Club President. At that time, there were only five members left, all in their 80s.
In addition to pinning the 100th member, Peardon was surprised with a 95th birthday party at the meeting. Her husband Claude, sister Nona, and brother Bill all were invited as secret guests. Peardon has been in the club for 40 years, serving for 23 years as President.
